How Well Do You Know Your Target Market?

3–4 minutes

You as a business owner how are you tracking your target market(s)?

What are you doing to research your target market?

If you are doing number one, stick around. I have some great details and reasoning for you to start doing research. After your finished reading you should check out Star Marketing Solutions Services!

If your at number two, shows you as a business owner knows how important it is to understand and research each market that your business may be in or potentially be in. But you do not have the time do it yourself.

If you are doing three that most likely means you are informed. But research 50% of your day. As a business owner, you have a business to run. It is tough being a business owner, when you have products to sell or services to provide. It leaves you in a tough spot.

No matter what you do as a business owner 1, 2, or 3, it is tough.

Do you take the time to do the research and understand the market? Or do you just go out and do the job? Either way you are losing out on something.

If you are taking the time to do the research, then your potentially losing out on new customers you may met face to face. That’s not good for business. Then if you just go out and do the job, well how do you know your maximizing those customers. If you do not know that customers needs/wants then you can not fully service them.

I think your getting the point. So, you probably are saying “Okay, get on with it… I understand it take a lot of time and research. But what is it?”

What is Target Marketing?!

Target Marketing by definition is: “Target marketing is a strategic approach where businesses identify specific segments of the population that are most likely to be interested in their products or services. It involves tailoring marketing efforts, messages, and promotions to appeal directly to these identified segments, maximizing the effectiveness of marketing campaigns and minimizing wasted resources.”

Awesome…. But lets break that down.

-Strategic Approach: RESEARCH!! I can not say that enough, research your market. This helps you understand who your potential customers are.

-Specific Segments: This a group of customers that can be grouped by different specifications. Such as age, location, Income and/or lifestyle.

-Interested in Your Product: What kind of customer is interested in your product? This can be answered by asking yourself the following;

  • Are your target customers male or female?
  • How old are they?
  • Where do they live?
  • What is their marital status?
  • Do they have children? How old are their children?
  • What is their education level?
  • What do they do for a living?
  • What is their average income?
  • What’s are their interest?
  • What are their buying habits?

All the above questions can help you better understand if someone or a segment is worth your time for your business. As said before.. Time and research cost money, so do not waste your time on marketing to a segment not right for your business.

That is a lot of information that goes into target marketing, a lot of research.

So why even do this?

Well, you will understand your market, your customer and you won’t waste your time and money in places that do not need it. If you as a owner of your business never understand your customer then you most likely will never truly have a full customer base, even worse.. You may never ever have a loyal customer base.

Every businesses dream is to have a customer base that they do not have to force down the Marketing Funnel. Where at the bottom of this marketing funnel is.. Loyalty. But that sounds like a whole other blog if you ask me.
